Shopify Developer at Bit By Bit E-Commerce Solutions Inc. - Anywhere
Company Description
Bit By Bit E-Commerce Solutions Inc. is an e-commerce solutions company based in Halifax, Nova Scotia. We partner with brands to streamline operations, connect systems, and build performant online experiences—whether that’s through automated workflows, custom internal tools, or finely tuned Shopify themes.
Role Description – Shopify Developer (Contract, Remote)
We are looking for a Shopify Developer (contract, up to 4 months, remote) to help design, build, and maintain Shopify-based e-commerce experiences for our clients.
You’ll be responsible for developing custom Shopify themes, implementing new features, integrating third-party apps, and ensuring our clients’ storefronts are robust, fast, and easy to manage. You’ll work closely with our team to translate business requirements into clean, maintainable code using Liquid, HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, leveraging Online Store 2.0 and Shopify best practices.
Responsibilities
- Develop, customize, and maintain Shopify themes using Liquid, HTML5, CSS3, and JavaScript.
- Build and enhance Online Store 2.0 features, including JSON templates, sections, blocks, and metafield/metaobject-driven content.
- Implement pixel-perfect UI from Figma or design mockups, ensuring mobile-first, responsive layouts.
- Integrate and configure third-party Shopify apps (reviews, subscriptions, upsells, loyalty, analytics, etc.) without breaking theme functionality.
- Work with Shopify APIs (Storefront, AJAX cart, and Admin where relevant) to create custom features and front-end components (e.g., AJAX cart, dynamic product widgets).
- Use metafields and metaobjects to enable flexible, merchant-editable content.
- Diagnose and fix issues related to Liquid, JavaScript, CSS, and app/theme conflicts.
- Optimize storefronts for performance, accessibility, and SEO (image optimization, lazy loading, semantic HTML, basic Core Web Vitals awareness).
- Use Git for version control (branching, pull requests, code review) and work with non-production themes/environments before going live.
- Collaborate with internal team members to estimate work, communicate progress, and deliver on agreed timelines.
- Stay current with Shopify platform updates, ecosystem changes, and e-commerce best practices.
QualificationsMust-Haves
- Strong proficiency with Liquid, HTML5, CSS3, and JavaScript (vanilla).
- Demonstrated experience building and customizing Shopify themes, including Online Store 2.0 (sections everywhere, JSON templates, blocks).
- Experience working with Shopify metafields and metaobjects to power dynamic content.
- Familiarity with Shopify APIs (Storefront and AJAX cart) and common app integrations.
- Comfortable with Git and modern development workflows (branches, pull requests, code reviews).
- Solid understanding of responsive design and cross-browser compatibility.
- Strong debugging and problem-solving skills (Liquid errors, JS console, network requests, app conflicts).
- Clear written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work independently in a remote setting.
- Strong attention to detail and reliability in meeting project deadlines.
Nice-to-Haves
- Experience with Shopify Plus (checkout extensibility, functions).
- Exposure to headless Shopify (e.g., Next.js, Hydrogen, custom Storefront API frontends).
- Experience implementing tracking and events for GA4, Meta Pixel, and other analytics tools.
- A good design/UX eye and comfort giving feedback on flows and layouts.
How to Apply
Please include:
- A brief introduction about yourself and your Shopify/e-commerce experience.
- Links to live Shopify stores, code samples, or GitHub repos you’ve worked on (with a short note on what you implemented).
- Your preferred hourly rate (in CAD if possible) and your weekly availability.
