Senior Freelance Web Developer at Berlin Bytes - Germany

About the job

We are seeking a skilled Senior Freelance Web Developer to create with us a new website using a headless CMS over a 2–3 month period. You'll collaborate with our design and marketing teams to implement multi-language content, robust editorial workflows, SEO optimisation, and high performance.

Responsibilities

• Develop a high-performance, accessible website.
• Model CMS content types to support multi-language and localised content.
• Implement editorial controls, such as role-based permissions, draft/publish workflows, preview environments, versioning, and scheduled publishing.
• Ensure strong SEO, including clean URLs, redirects, canonical tags, metadata, and adherence to multilingual SEO best practices.
• Integrate with external systems.
• Optimise for performance and accessibility.
• Manage operations, including secure hosting.
• Conduct testing and QA.

Required Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional web development experience with successful delivery of production websites.
• Proficiency in React, with significant experience in Next.js strongly preferred for SEO and internationalisation capabilities.
• Expertise with Strapi and/or Contentful, focusing on localisation, editorial workflows, and preview configurations.
• Strong skills in TypeScript, HTML5, CSS (Tailwind or CSS Modules), and version control via Git/GitHub.
• Experience with API integration (REST/GraphQL), authentication, and state management.
• Demonstrated expertise in website optimisation for Core Web Vitals, accessibility (WCAG 2.1 AA), and SEO.
• Experience customising CMS (Strapi plugins, Contentful GraphQL/SDK, webhooks) and conducting data migrations.
• Proficiency in internationalisation libraries and applying regional content rules.
